What Is The Best Selling Christmas Movie Of All Time
welcome to tokyosaurus. so what's up in japan? kimi no nawa or otherwise known as your namehas officially overtaken harry potter and the philosopher's stone to become the 4thhighest grossing film of all time in japan. the 2001 harry potter film held that spotwith a 20.3 billion yen gross profit and was last overtaken by frozen in 2014. frozen is currently in the number 3 spot with25.48 billion yen in gross profits with your name hovering below it at 20.51 billion yen. the gap between frozen and your name is quitebig and it'll take quite a push to catch up
but the christmas holidays are coming andyour name is about to get featured in imax so that will probably give it a good boost. you really know when a movie is doing greatwhen china decides to make a live action version of your animated movie. it was unofficially leaked but nothing isreally confirmed, and they definitely did not talk to makoto shinkai about this. some of you may also be curious as to whoelse is on the top 10 list. so let's go through them. at number 10 we have james cameron's avatar, number 9, we have harry potter and the chambers
of secrets. at number 8 we have bayside shakedown 2 (whichis a film based on a popular comedic tv series about the police force) , at number 7 is princessmononoke, 6 is howl's moving castle, 5 is harry potter and the philosopher's stone,4 is your name, at 3 we have frozen, 2 titanic and finally at number 1 we have spirited away. if there's one thing to notice it's that outof the top 10 highest grossing films of all time, 8 of them were aired prior to 2010. i guess going to the movies nowadays justisn't as popular as it was 10 years ago. 6 of the 10 films are animated so you canreally tell how much japan loves its animation.
the last film to even hit the top 20 was starwars force awakens in 2015 with 11.58 billion at the #20 spot. surprised with any of the films on the list? as usual let us know in the comments below. remember to give us a thumbs up if you enjoyedthe video. you can follow tokyosaurus on twitter andfacebook for japanese culture tweets and updates. and for more about the latest things peopleare talking about in japan, don't forget to check out our channel and subscribe so youcan get your daily fix of japan right in your inbox.
